Privacy Policy
Effective September 11, 2026
Fade/Away is a privacy-focused temporary email service. This policy explains what information Fade/Away processes, why it is processed, how long it is retained, and the services used to operate the app.
Information Fade/Away processes
Fade/Away may process the following information in order to provide the service:
- An automatically generated anonymous app identifier used to separate one user's burners from another user's burners.
- Burner email addresses and associated metadata, including creation and expiration times, status, and unread counts.
- Email information necessary to send, receive, and display messages, including sender, recipient, subject, message body, HTML content, images, attachments, direction, and timestamp.
- Security and rate-limit information used to prevent abuse, spam, automated misuse, and excessive service usage.
- Limited technical and operational information produced by infrastructure providers when the service is used.
- Advertising-related information processed by Google Mobile Ads, which may include device or app identifiers, IP address and approximate location derived from it, ad impressions and interactions, diagnostics, and performance information.
- If you voluntarily submit feedback or a support request through the app, Fade/Away processes the information you provide, such as the report category, message, optional reply email address, app version, build number, and basic operating-system information.
No traditional account required
Fade/Away currently uses anonymous authentication. The app does not require users to provide a name, personal email address, password, or social login in order to create a burner.
How information is used
Information is processed only as reasonably necessary to:
- Create and manage temporary burner email addresses.
- Send, receive, display, and organize burner messages.
- Determine when a burner expires.
- Enforce service limits and prevent spam, fraud, abuse, and automated misuse.
- Maintain security, reliability, and troubleshoot service problems.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations.
Remote images in email
Fade/Away does not automatically load remote images contained in email messages. This helps reduce unintended contact with third-party image hosts and common email tracking technologies.
If you choose to load remote images, the third-party server hosting those images may receive technical information associated with the request, such as your IP address, device or network information, and the time the image was requested. Those third parties operate under their own privacy practices.
Service providers
Fade/Away relies on third-party service providers to operate:
- Google Firebase for anonymous authentication, database and file storage, server-side functions, and related infrastructure.
- Mailgun for email transmission and inbound email routing.
- Apple for distribution of the iOS application and App Store services.
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) for advertising, ad measurement, fraud prevention, and advertising privacy and consent controls.
- Formspree for processing feedback and support submissions that users voluntarily send through the app.
These providers may process information necessary to perform their services subject to their own legal obligations and privacy practices.
Burner and message retention
Standard Fade/Away burners are temporary and currently expire approximately 24 hours after creation. Fade/Away runs scheduled cleanup to delete expired burner records, their associated message records, and stored email attachments.
Because cleanup runs on a schedule, deletion may occur after the exact expiration time rather than at the precise second a burner expires. Infrastructure providers may also retain limited backups, security records, or operational logs for periods required for reliability, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or their normal infrastructure processes.
Security and abuse-prevention records
Fade/Away may retain limited rate-limit and security records associated with an anonymous application identifier for longer than an individual burner exists when reasonably necessary to prevent abuse and protect the service.
Selling personal information
Fade/Away does not sell users' personal information for monetary consideration. Third-party service providers may process information as described in this policy in order to provide their services, including advertising services.
Advertising
Fade/Away uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to display advertising. On Apple devices, Fade/Away requests permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework before advertising partners can access identifiers such as the IDFA for advertising measurement. If tracking permission is not granted, Fade/Away continues to request non-personalized advertising without making the IDFA available to advertising partners.
If you choose not to allow tracking, Fade/Away remains fully usable and may continue to display non-personalized advertising without access to the IDFA.
Google Mobile Ads may process information such as IP address, approximate location derived from IP address, device or app identifiers, advertising information such as ads shown to a device, interactions with ads or the app, diagnostics, and performance information. This information may be used for purposes such as delivering ads, frequency capping, aggregated reporting, measurement, security, and fraud prevention.
Non-personalized advertising is not selected using a user's past behavior, but advertising technology may still use limited identifiers and technical information for functions such as ad delivery, frequency capping, reporting, and abuse prevention.
Depending on your location and applicable law, Fade/Away uses Google's User Messaging Platform to present consent or privacy choices. Where required, those choices can also be revisited from the app's About & Support area.
Your privacy choices and deletion requests
Burners are designed to expire automatically. Depending on your location, advertising privacy choices may also be available within Fade/Away through About & Support. If you need help with a privacy request or would like to request deletion of information associated with your use of Fade/Away, contact support using the form below.
Because Fade/Away does not currently require a traditional account, we may need enough information to identify the relevant burner or anonymous service data before fulfilling a request.
Contact Fade/Away SupportChildren
Fade/Away is not designed or directed specifically to children under 13.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as Fade/Away evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
